Summary: Max and LuLu continue the Chinese lineage conversation through a central proposition: what appears magical is the result of sustained intimacy with life. They explore attention as a full-body participation in the world, the meeting of instinct and rational clarity, and the body conditions LuLu feels make transmission easier.

The Foundation of the Profound

Max: So we’re continuing on this discussion of ancient Chinese lineages: developing one’s supernatural, the ability to be so intimate with life and so—what I used to call—effervescent, that magic seems to be your default.

That profound experience is life for you, and slowly, slowly, that’s all that exists. Sleep is profound. Eating is profound. Exercise is profound. Speech, sex, simply looking at a leaf becomes so profound of an experience.

And not necessarily because God ordained you in some way, but because you made yourself available to it and did these necessities.

We’ve all known people—and we’ve probably been ourselves—that we made ourselves available and we found experience, and then it faded. And we cursed ourselves and the world as we went back to normalcy, as we felt it, or a slowed-down version of reality.

And we’ve later found out it’s because we didn’t do the footwork. We didn’t do the foundation. We didn’t do the fundamentals. We didn’t continue the thing that made us successful.

We sort of started the car and then drove a few feet and went, “Wow, this is amazing,” and then killed the engine and then went, “Oh man, life sucks.”

Consciousness in the Symphony

LuLu: Yeah, it’s like intimacy. Intimacy with life is when your consciousness is in everything.

When you’re carrying a jug of water and your awareness is so deep in the water, in the jug, in your feet that are marching up the mountain—or where it is that you are—your consciousness is in the Earth, the Earth that is under your feet.

That’s what intimacy with life is.

It’s like when you’re cooking and your consciousness is in the cucumber and in the fire and in the tomato and in the onion and everything in the knife—that you are this symphony that is happening.

Not just a part of the symphony that’s happening, but your consciousness is in everything that is part of that symphony.

This is the potential possibility, you know? And many of us—I don’t know, I’ll speak for myself—I don’t have that fully, because I know I have moments where I experience more.

Like this morning, I’m like, “Holy shit, life is so overwhelmingly vibrant.” It’s overwhelming.

I mean, I’m sure it’s progressive in layers, but I felt that this morning. I was like, “Holy fuck. Like, if I did everything right the rest of my life, I still wouldn’t get done what I wanted to get done.”

The Mechanism of the Extraordinary

LuLu: And the potentials that come through that state are really quite limitless.

Like, one thing that this ancestor was showing me—this Chinese ancestor body super-master—was that he was making this somewhat comical reference to how people have this understanding of some of these ancient warrior monks: they could seemingly fly off of the ground.

And he said that’s not quite what was happening.

He was saying that they were so unified with the nervous system of Earth and of everything around them that they could allocate their consciousness into a part of the Earth that was underneath them, or into a tree that they were standing on or next to, and generate, like, an electromagnetic pulse that would propel them from under their feet and give them this extra lift that their body didn’t have on its own.

And so it would simulate this image of flying.

So it was this idea and this reminder that these seemingly very fantastical things, when you look at them very deeply, the mechanism of these abilities, you could call them, are simply when your consciousness is so interwoven with everything around you.

And if you look into yoga galore, this is what’s in the depths of yoga for the people that have actually researched these abilities. The people that do them very distinctly say that this is not some God-given thing. This is: my knowledge of the natural world is sufficient that this is just a clear and obvious possibility.

And not that it isn’t strange to someone who’s far away from it.

I mean, a bird, to someone who’s never seen flight, would be fucking terrifying. You’d be like, “There’s no way they can do it, because you’re too heavy. I can’t fly. Therefore a bird cannot fly.”

Well, here they go.

But to a bird, like, “Yep. Jump off the tree, man. Swing your wings. Works.”

Instinct and Electricity

Max: And I think, in maybe language that you and I use quite frequently, it’s really this idea of a balance and unification between the electrical capacity—slash thinking, rational capacity—and the chemical capacity.

It’s like the body intelligence. When they are of equal proportion, if you will, that’s simply what happens. That’s what happens within the body.

There’s, like, this deep awareness of everything that’s happening in all of your cells, and what’s happening in the rain clouds and in the plants, et cetera.

LuLu: One example that was given to me today was, like, I was outside training with my martial arts stick. I was out there for about an hour in the lagoon, and suddenly I was like, “Fuck, I gotta go home.”

And I didn’t really have—it was very instinctual—I didn’t really have, like, a rational or electrical thought, if you will, of, “Oh, I need to go home because of this and this.”

I was just like, “Fuck, I gotta go home.”

And as soon as I got home, out of nowhere, like, big fucking rain came.

And this ancestor was communicating to me throughout this time, being like, “See, you don’t really have sufficient electrical ability to have understood why it is that you were going home.”

He was telling me that I have, like, immense chemical capacity—like really, really incredible, developed chemical capacity—which is very much like instinct, where you move through instinct from instinct.

But I don’t have sufficient electricity to be able to be walking home and be like, “Oh, why do I feel like I am walking home? Oh, it’s because I noticed that it’s going to rain in six minutes, and it takes me five minutes to get home, and so that’s why, in that moment, that’s why I’m walking home.”

And it’s this issue, this imbalance that I have in my system, is a huge sort of type of contention that Max and I experience in our relationship.

Where I have these deep instinctual senses of things and an inability to name rationally what they are for and what they’re leading me towards. So I’ll have, like, a freakout and be like, “We can’t be doing this,” or, “We have to do that over there. This isn’t right.”

And Max will ask why, and I’m like, “I don’t know, but we have to go,” or, “We can’t be doing this.”

Body Conditions for Receiving

LuLu: So they were really encouraging me to develop my electrical capacity through learning language, through mathematics, through vitamin C, interestingly.

Max: Vitamin C is just a term to describe an incredibly high-functioning molecule, called an entity, if you will, because it’s used so diversely within the human experience.

Whatever that’s worth for all those around you: my grandfather, who lived to 101, attained world fame in sports and arts and crafts and these kind of things—very well, blah blah blah, all those fancy fun things.

The one thing that he did do is he took 2,000 milligrams to 5,000 milligrams of vitamin C every day. Every day.

Linus Pauling, the popular Nobel Prize physicist, and vitamin C—that popularized this.

But it’s using essentially everything. So if your life is an absolute disaster and you’re stuck in an interstitial and you’re like, “Fuck, where do I start with something that’s just gonna help me right now have a little more charge, a little more spark, a little more et cetera?” Just start increasing your dosage of vitamin C.

More than likely, you’re gonna have to supplement it, and increase protein.

LuLu: Yeah, of course. Always, always.

Max: But that is a simple, simple, simple one: vitamin C.

My grandpa had eight kids, so we’re tired at 40 with eight children after being broke at 24. So vitamin C does something.

That’s the one thing he was known by, at least in a Western sense.

LuLu: I was also told that I receive the most clear downloads when I eat a diet quite high in fat, and that downloads in general and telepathic communications are best received when the spine is straight.

So if you’re laying down, don’t have your head up on a high pillow. When you’re sitting, if you’re not able to sit in lotus and have your back straight and you’re kind of hunched over, that it creates, like, a disturbance in the frequency and in the transmission.

Better to just lay down.

So I do.

But yeah, just some little—

Discipline That Frees Intuition

Summary: LuLu explores a principle she feels was conveyed through her ancestor: discipline and intuition are not opposites. Rhythm gives the body enough safety to become more sensitive, while obsession with routine can flatten the very intelligence the rhythm was meant to awaken.

Rhythm Makes Intuition More Precise

LuLu: Lastly, one of the very potent and critical things that I got out of the last couple days through communicating with this ancestor was: he was talking about how discipline and intuition balance one another and help each one grow.

So typically people think when we live intuitively that sort of deletes the need for discipline, or that when we live a disciplined life it doesn’t have space for intuition.

And he was saying, actually, that intuition becomes much more precise and much more heightened when we give the body some sense of rhythm and safety.

It’s like the body will come to feel so much security in certain occurrences that happen daily around the same time.

So if you eat your main meal at the same time, if you have some kind of ritual for eating that food, if you go to bed at the same time—if there’s something that the body can anticipate and it is met with validation every single day—the body will come into such a state of safety that it will increase its intuitive capacity, essentially.

And so if we kind of have our lives focused around two or three things that there’s discipline around, the intuition actually grows. And then, in these other parts of our lives, we can move intuitively.

But basically, that intuition becomes less reliable when there is no structure at all, which I found to be interesting.

The Body’s Timers

Max: I think part of it is the body has melatonin and hormones are on timers.

You can actually hear the thought of an engine in the background. An engine is consistent. It’s a one-horsepower engine. There’s a timer, and that timing changes—it takes a lot of energy for that to shift, to change that rate.

If it’s a consistent rate, it can maintain it quite well. And when it changes, either it speeds up or slows down, it takes a lot of energy to do.

In the same way with the human body: if you have a sense of rhythm, then it’s easier to live.

And ideally, your rhythm eventually gets in harmony with the sun and the moon and the Earth cycles, because those are bigger rhythms that are happening, and you start to connect.

In addition to your menstrual cycle, and in addition to your digestive cycle, in addition to yada yada, you’ll find harmony.

Many people are syncing their body with a daily work cycle and the Gregorian calendar, which is fine, and they get good at that and they are consistent with it. They work nine to five, five days a week, and they do it 48 weeks a year.

But it usually creates a lot of disharmony in the body because the body doesn’t care so much about that set of cycles and signals.

A Few Anchors, Not a Cage

LuLu: So this is where the discipline part—

Buddha was famous: he would eat his main meal, his only meal of the day, before solar zenith—between 8 a.m. and before solar zenith, which is usually about 12.

That was one of the disciplines that he essentially maintained for the last 45 years of his life, when he was teaching. And he would sleep at essentially the same time every day.

For example, Sadhguru does something similar. It’s not just for ease of control, but it’s also because the body appreciates it and values it.

The body responds to consistency.

It doesn’t require consistency in everything, because different activities and different days will require different things.

So that’s the balancing act. If you assume that every day you require these specific ingredients and this ratio of macronutrients, you’re going to be wrong at some point.

Because if you’re living full on, as Max calls it, you’re going to be engaging in different types of circumstances every day that require different things of you. And they require different codes, different foods.

But if you have something for your gears to hinge themselves around, if you will, then it just creates a vast ability for these other things to turn on.

These other abilities that your body also has start to turn on and be awakened when there’s something that the body can accurately anticipate.

Safety Beyond Survival

LuLu: I mean, it’s like, think of the type of chaos that happens when prisoners of war, for example, are placed into darkness for long periods of time, and the intense havoc that that wreaks on the nervous system.

Like, they have no idea how many days have passed. They don’t see the cycle of the sun in the room.

Something that most of us have on most days is that we see the sunrise and we see the sun go down, or we notice that the sun comes out. We know when it’s day. We know when it’s night.

That’s a type of consistency that the body can anticipate. And of course it changes throughout the year and the seasons, but it’s a gradual change.

That’s one of these things that creates stability in the body, so the body can start to turn on other abilities other than just baseline survival.

But if we become obsessed with discipline, then the magic and genius of life very quickly fades, because we start to live from a place of repetition and assuming that tomorrow is going to be the same as yesterday—which is untrue.
